Workshops 2021

A look back at the 1st annual Folklife Workshops

In June 2021, the Southern Maryland Folklife Center hosted its first annual Southern Maryland Folklife Summer Workshops at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

During this three-day event, we offered in-person workshops in everything from making a stuffed ham and running a small farm to painting the Southern Maryland landscape and making wampum pendants. The workshops culminated in a public exhibition and celebration event at SMCM’s Boyden Gallery where we celebrated and supported community-based living and the cultural traditions of Southern Maryland.

Participants in 2022 chose from an array of workshops including…

Landscape Painting

Wampum Pendant Workshop

Contra Dance

Learning a Folksong

African American Hair Workshop

History of Bluegrass Music
